OMV Lourdes Pilgrimage 2022

We're back! The OMV are hoping to run the first pilgrimage to Lourdes since the COVID-19 outbreak.

This year, as we return after the pandemic, we will be running a shorter pilgrimage than usual from Sunday 24 July to Thursday 28 July. 

On this page you will find the basic information you need to know before applying to Lourdes. If you are applying for the first time, please read this carefully. If you have any questions after reading this please email Kate (Volunteer Coordinator)

COST

The cost of a place on this year's pilgrimage is £540.

COVID-19

Please note that all volunteers will need to be fully jabbed (3 doses - 2 x vaccines and 1 x booster) by 10 July in order to volunteer with us.  We will not be accepting volunteers who have not been fully vaccinated by 10 July. 

Please also note that whilst we very much hope to run as close to a 'normal' pilgrimage as possible - plans will be liable to change. Please keep an eye on this page for any updates. 

COMPULSORY PREREQUISITES

For all volunteers:

• you must be between 17 or over;
• if you are not yet 17, you must be in year 12 at school and turn 17 before 23 July 2022;
• you must have valid, enhanced DBS clearance, completed with the OMV, this must be renewed every three years;
• if you have a DBS certificate issued by another organisation you must check as soon as possible with the Volunteer Coordinator that this is valid for use in Lourdes if not you will have to complete another form through the OMV;
• you must have a valid introductory First Aid certificate. This and your DBS will be completed at the OMV Training Day; and
• you must attend the OMV Training Day. 

TRAINING

The OMV Training day is 22 May 2022 at the London Oratory School, Seagrave Road, SW6 1RX (nearest tube: West Brompton)

This is compulsory for all volunteers - if you are required to attend the training day we will only accept your application if you commit to attending. If you have any questions or will not be able to attend the training day, please let Kate know.  

BURSARIES

The Lourdes bursary scheme was created to ensure that the most experienced helpers can continue to volunteer after they are no longer supported by school, parents or guardians to pay for the cost of the pilgrimage. We consider your experience in Lourdes, your experience in other OMV activities, your income and other relevant skills.

The OMV, as a charity, has a limited bursary fund and awards are made at the committee’s discretion.
If you are less experienced, or a first time volunteer, the bursary system is not closed to you, however we would strongly advise you to seek financial support from your school, university, parish or workplace.

The OMV will also ‘match fund’ you. If you independently fundraise for the OMV, we will give you a £1 discount off the cost of the pilgrimage for every £3 you raise.
